Suffolk Summerhouse

Modern Summerhouse and artists studio

Summerhouse Studio external shot

Our clients set out to replace their traditional summerhouse with a boldly modern studio, one that would contrast with the cottage garden while still sitting comfortably within its surroundings. Having worked together before, we were pleased to join the architect-led team.

Our role included interior and exterior lighting design, specification of flooring and paving, and the design of the kitchenette and cloakroom. We also collaborated on the finish of the timber cladding that wraps the building.

Inside, a large-format textured white tile was chosen to reflect light and enhance the sense of space, echoed in the kitchen worktop and splashback. The kitchen units were finished to match the wall cladding, creating a seamless, unified feel. Externally, paving forms a subtle transition between the modern structure, limestone terrace, and riverside decking.

The lighting scheme balances flexibility and atmosphere, supporting both artwork display and everyday use.

The result is a distinctive, contemporary retreat for relaxing, painting, and entertaining.
